Ramón Gutíerrez was born in Barcelona, and today lives and works in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Girona (near the famous Costa Brava region of Spain). At a very early age, Gutíerrez began drawing and painting almost non-stop. He was academically trained in Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. Gutíerrez has exhibited throughout Spain and France. Major influences on Gutíerrez’ work include Picasso, Cezanne and Velazquez, in addition to many others. His unique style is also influenced by the equally unique rhythms of jazz, rock, opera, blues and other musical genres, which he listens to while he works. Gutíerrez uses thick strokes of oil to almost three dimensional effect in his work. He makes ample uses of rich, vivid tones and textures. The intimate and deep human sensations depicted in the work seem to almost come alive. In the words of Gutíerrez: To counter-act a dehumanized world, through my paintings I try to capture the importance of human emotion and relationships. My topics are always bound to the current moment I am living: maternity, childhood, expressions, gestures, the elderly and other striking moments of human existence.
